Overview

After crossing the Bradano valley you will reach Venosa, the most important Roman site in Basilicata with its extraordinary archaeological park, where you can admire a refined roman spa. A short distance away you will see the majestic ruins of the “Incompiuta” basilica (“Unfinished”), behind the sanctuary of the Holy Trinity. The walk will continue along the characteristic alleys of the historic center up to the fifteenth-century cathedral of Sant’Andrea. A characteristic stop will be the visit to the birthplace of the Latin poet Horace.

You will then move towards the evocative landscapes of Vulture, where a valuable native vine, Aglianico, is grown. You will visit one of the local wine producers in Basilicata and taste the typical products of the Lucanian area, combined with wine tasting.

The last stop of your experience will be Melfi, a very important medieval city home to the prestigious Frederick castle, which today preserves unmissable finds from the Roman age such as the sarcophagus of Rapolla. Walking the streets of the village, the route will end with a visit to the 12th century Norman cathedral.
